Celtic Knotwork

Knotwork is an intricate series of knots tied together to create patterns such as the pure pattern, which has no beginning and no end. (See the above picture.) Ancient Celtic art was developed by monks and warrors, who had a great number of uses for Celtc knots and motifs.

Celtic knots were then, and still now, used to help monks gain better meditation focus as the lines around the design can be followed in a trance like state.

The Christians also use Celtic knots to form the Triquetra (which is a three-pointed star made of a Celtic knot) meditate better and focus closer on their prayers as they followed the lines around the design. To Christians the three points of the symbol represent Christian Trinity: The father, the son, and the holy spirit.
